Paper
John James Audubon used English paper from James Whatman, one of the most famous artisans of that time. The pulp was made from old rags, and each sheet was crafted by hand.
For the new folios, we have used a 200-gram Main Fleurie paper made from new textile fibers. It has been manufactured by Arches in the Vosges, specially for the book. Due to the slow cylinder rotation, the paper has a felt-like softness, very close to handmade paper.
The first 35 of the watercolor portfolios will be printed using the carbon technique on handmade paper, sheet by sheet, similar to that used by Audubon.
The following 200 portfolios of the 48 watercolors are printed on 100-gram Japan paper, and lastly, the 48 watercolors of 2,265 portfolios of the watercolors are printed on 300-gram Main Fleurie paper.
